On November 15, 2017, Texas System of Care site Bexar CARES hosted the first Family Network kickoff event to celebrate family voice and introduce a new family navigator program.

Held at the San Antonio Food Bank, close to 350 parents, foster parents, adoptive parents, grandparents, and other kinship caregivers were in attendance alongside professionals from an impressive range of child-serving systems such as mental health, child welfare, juvenile justice, local police departments and school districts.

The event focused on a series of roundtable discussions and lectures, where family members had the opportunity to share personal lived experiences to system providers on ways to improve child-serving systems in how they approach mental health issues. The input from family members was collected to further evaluate ways that system of care approaches can honor family-driven and youth guided practices.

What a great day for families and Texas System of Care!
