National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week is the first of May and shines a spotlight on the importance of caring for every child’s mental health. In 2013, Texas System of Care hosted the first statewide Children’s Mental Health Awareness campaign, as we sought to “Shine a Light” on the importance of positive mental health as an essential component of health child development. Over the years, we have hosted festivals, held community walks, supported state proclamations, and joined together as a state community as families and champions.
This year, we hope to have even greater participation as we shift the discussion from “Awareness” to Acceptance. We have made taking part in May activities very easy so start planning now! Visit the Texas CMHA Toolkit to access tools to plan an event, support a proclamation, spread positive messaging, and participate in our “Mental Health Hero” campaigns. And make sure to join us on May 2nd, 2022 as we launch the Texas Children’s Mental Health Acceptance website. It will be filled with activities, performance, motivating speakers, resources, and more.
